Diversity
Why diversity is important to us
Throughout Aviva, we recognise the strength that comes from
working with colleagues from a whole host of different backgrounds;
colleagues with different experiences and fresh perspectives.
It's equally important to us to make sure that every individual we
employ is given the support, encouragement and development
opportunities they need to make the most of their unique talents.
After all, thriving people make for a thriving business.
As the sixth largest insurer in the world (and the largest here
in the UK) our customers come from every conceivable walk of life.
What better way to make our customers feel understood and valued
than to try to ensure that our workforce is equally varied?
Our diversity vision
Diversity is about everyone. We believe in a working culture
that respects, celebrates and harnesses differences to the benefit
of customers, employees, shareholders, business partners and wider
communities.
Global Diversity and Innovation award
Here at Aviva, we've been recognised for our international
diversity programme at the World Diversity Leadership Summit,
hosted by the United Nations Global Compact. The Global Diversity
and Innovation award was presented to our former group chief
executive, Richard Harvey at the UN headquarters in New York. Of
course, this doesn't mean we're resting on our laurels. We'll
continue to innovate and develop our diversity strategy even
further.
Stonewall Top 100 Employers 2010 - our latest diversity
listing
Stonewall has just announced that Aviva have jumped 12 places to
now be ranked number 42 in the seventh annual Stonewall Workplace
Equality Index, putting us in the top 10 private sector companies.
Employers were ranked according to criteria ranging from
implementation of effective equality policies to demonstrations of
good practice in recruitment and mentoring.
LGBT sponsorship
Aviva provides sponsorship for a whole host of activities, from
the Mayor's Pride reception, to the Gay and Lesbian World Cup and
Stonewall's Gay Youth Programme. In addition, we provide funding
for local LGBT events in Norwich, York, London, Worthing and
Bristol.
We're also very committed to the Albert Kennedy Trust - an
organisation that raises money to support LGBT people who've been
kicked out of their home or the care system as a result of
revealing their sexuality.
Employee networks
Our thriving employee networks such as the Aviva Women's Network
and Aviva Pride strengthen our commitment to diversity.
