Uncover the secrets hidden in the data.
With some 18 million UK customers and 325 years of experience, we have one of the broadest and deepest data sets in the financial services industry. And within that data, lies endless new and exciting opportunities waiting to be unlocked.
Some people still think that data professionals are all boffins working in stuffy back rooms. This may be true elsewhere, but certainly not at Aviva. Our data teams are creative, innovative people who are applying the best computer science, engineering, statistics, and machine learning techniques to help us change our business for the better.
If you’re curious and passionate about what data can do, then this apprenticeship could be for you.
Applications for the Data apprentice pathway are now closed.
What sets our apprenticeships apart is the sheer variety of experiences and challenges you can find here. All our apprentices earn a salary as they learn invaluable new skills and work towards professional qualifications. So, wherever you are in your working life, this is a great way to build a fantastic career.
Our Level 4 Apprenticeships (which is equivalent to a foundation degree) typically take 18–24 months to complete. From there, we’ll help you design the way you want to develop. This could be moving on to a higher-level apprenticeship that could see you gain a BSc Degree or doing some specific technical development relevant to your role.
Along with formal study time, you’ll learn on the job, gaining real-life experience working within our expert teams. Which means you’ll be empowered to own your work, but you won’t do it alone. You’ll have supportive people all around you, every step of the way.
You might think we’re just another boring insurance firm, but nothing could be further from the truth. We don’t show up for work in pressed suits and shiny shoes. At Aviva, we’re proud to be different. Proud to say that we’re a diverse mix of cultures, genders, ages, perspectives, and ideas.
Most important of all, we’re an organisation with a purpose. We want to lead the way forward in our sector, which is why we focus on being the best we can be. Every day. Together, we’re building a better tomorrow with a little help – a lot, actually – from our future leaders.
No matter who you are, where you’re from, or what your interests are, you can be sure there’s a place for you at Aviva. We’re passionate and committed, just like you are; we’re the first major insurer worldwide to target Net Zero carbon by 2040 and we’re committed to the community too – we’re aiming for £10bn UK infrastructure and real estate investment.
There are many roles and specialisms within data. Through your apprenticeship, you’ll learn the core fundamentals while spending time in one or more of the following roles:
Help identify trends and spot opportunities that will help make our health insurance business even better. Whether it’s changes to our products or improvements to the experience we provide for customers, your insights can make a real impact.
Learn how to use data to create prices for our customers and business. Using sophisticated technology, you’ll analyse product data to let us know how products are performing and where there are opportunities to improve.
Work with our Commercial Analytics team who are helping to shape the future of insurance at Aviva through cutting-edge analytics. You will tackle business problems, research, design and build data models, present solutions to internal teams and assist with the development of our in-house applications using Python F and r.
York
Help our wealth business to understand their data and make big decisions. That might be analysing customer data so that we can build a brilliant long-term strategy or getting to grips with data that tells us about our trading performance and where we might need to make changes.
Our apprenticeships are based in some of the UK’s most vibrant cities, all of which are great places to live and work.
At Aviva, we blend working from the office with working from home. We call it smart working. Three days in the office and two days from home each week is a typical example, but that can vary. When you join us, your leader will discuss what works best for you, your team, and Aviva.
Smart working means you’ll still need to live within commuting distance of our office. That way, you will get to spend time with your team in person as well as virtually. It’ll also help you access the support and people that will help you succeed.
To join us on this apprenticeship, you’ll need (or be on track to achieve) at least three A-Levels or Scottish Highers at grades B–C or above. Or have an equivalent Level 3 qualification.
You will also need at least five GCSEs or Scottish National 5s at grades A*-C (9-4) or have equivalent qualifications. These must include English and Maths.
Alongside that, we’re looking for people who:
During the application process, we’ll want to hear about what you enjoy doing and what you are good at. And it goes without saying you’ll need to feel a connection with our values.
Sounds good? Great. Here’s what you need to do now.
If we can help to make the process smoother for you with any additional support or reasonable adjustments, please just let us know by emailing avivaearlycareers@aviva.com.
