Technology apprenticeships

Shine bright. Find a career that exceeds your expectations.

Technology apprenticeships. See where your strengths can take you.

Technology drives our business and enables us to put our 18.7 million customers at the centre of everything we do — whether that’s solving problems or creating innovative solutions.

If you’re curious and passionate about what tech can do, we have a whole host of apprentice roles that might suit you. And you don’t need to have studied a technology subject or worked in tech to join us. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

Different stories. One team.

What’s it like to start out in our tech team? We spoke to some of the people who are experiencing it for themselves right now!

Grow with us

Apprenticeships aren’t just for school leavers. Our apprentices come from all walks of life and age groups. While many join straight from school or college, some are career changers looking for a fresh challenge, or returning to the workplace after a career break. Some also join from other parts of Aviva.

What we offer all our apprentices, is the chance to earn a salary as they learn invaluable new skills and gain professional qualifications. So, wherever you are in your working life, this is a great way to build a fantastic career.

Depending on the programme, our apprenticeships last between 18 months and four years. Our Level 3 Apprenticeship will give you qualifications equivalent to A-Levels and our Level 4 Apprenticeships will give you qualifications equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree or Higher National Certificate. If you join a Level 5 Apprenticeship you’ll gain the equivalent of a foundation degree and on our Level 6 Apprenticeships (England) or Graduate Apprenticeship (Scotland) you’ll achieve a Bachelor degree.

Whichever apprenticeship you participate in, you’ll spend 80% of your time learning on the job, gaining real-life experience and 20% dedicated on working towards your Apprenticeship studies. You’ll have a dedicated learning programme including additional professional qualifications.

You’ll be empowered to be yourself, to own your work and your development — but don’t worry. We won’t expect you to be an expert from day one, or even month one. You’ll have a supportive team around you who’ll be there to help you develop, every step of the way.

Why Aviva?

You might think we’re just another boring insurance firm, but nothing could be further from the truth. We don’t show up for work in pressed suits and shiny shoes. At Aviva, we’re proud to be different. Proud to say that we’re a diverse mix of cultures, genders, ages, perspectives and ideas.

Most important of all, we’re an organisation with a purpose. We want to lead the way forward in our sector, which is why we focus on being the best we can be. Every day. Together, we’re building a better tomorrow with a little help — a lot, actually — from our apprentices!

No matter who you are, where you’re from or what your interests are, you can be sure there’s a place for you at Aviva. We’re passionate and committed, just like you are; we’re the first major insurer worldwide to target Net Zero carbon by 2040. We’ve also invested $10 million in an innovators lab fund to help support female entrepreneurs in the fintech industry.

What you can expect

Expect a workplace centred around people — you, your colleagues and of course, our customers.

We have lots of different roles in our technology teams for apprentices. For ease, we’ve grouped them into ‘pathways’. All you need to do is choose the pathway that best suits your skills, interests and aspirations. Previous experience in these roles isn’t essential. So, when choosing, think about your strengths, the types of tasks you enjoy doing, and we can teach you the rest.

You can expect the kind of support that will spur you on to be the best that you can be, as you grow your expertise and add industry-recognised qualifications to your list of achievements along the way.

If you love finding solutions, innovating, and being part of a talented, inquisitive team, then a career in our Change & Technology teams could be for you.

Technology Apprentice Pathways

To find out more about our three pathways, click below. You’ll see some of the pathways have more than one role type available. Your application will be for the whole pathway, but there will be an opportunity for you to tell us if you have a role and/or location preference.

Don’t worry if you’re not sure which role will suit you best. We’ll learn more about you throughout the recruitment process and will assess which role we feel is most aligned to your strengths.

Where you’ll be based

We have change & technology apprentice roles in Bristol, Norwich, Perth and York offices. Not all roles are available in every location (see specific adverts for details), so you may need to be flexible and willing to relocate if you don’t currently live within commuting distance of the relevant office for your role.

Wherever you’re based, the likelihood is that you’ll balance time in the office with working from home. We call this Smart Working. Three days in the office, and two days from home per week is a typical example, but will may vary between teams. When you join us, your leader will take time to discuss this with you, and agree what works best for you, your team and the business.

As we adopt this Smart Working approach, it’s important to note that you will still need to live within commutable distance of the relevant office for your role. That way you’ll get to spend time with your team in person as well as virtually and get access to the right support networks internally to help you to succeed.

Application process

Our applications are open from January until the end of February however applications will close when we’ve received sufficient applications, so we recommend applying as early as possible to avoid disappointment. We’ll be holding our assessments in April and May 2024. We’ll want to hear about your problem-solving and communication skills, and your passion for change, data and technology too. And it goes without saying you’ll need to feel a connection with our values. Sounds good? Great. Here’s what you need to do.

If we can help to make the process smoother for you with any additional support or reasonable adjustments, please just let us know by emailing avivaearlycareers@aviva.com
