Customer and Claims apprenticeships

People. They’re at the heart of all the biggest businesses.

Customer and Claims Apprenticeships. Big careers with a human face.

We may be a big business, but at the heart of it you’ll find people. Around 15 million of them no less. Our customers come from all sorts of communities – literally. And we count businesses among our customers too, from market stall traders to some of the biggest and most successful companies around.

So, if you thrive building relationships and empathising with other people, you’ll find a lot to interest you at Aviva.

Applications for this programme have now closed, please keep checking back for opportunities later in the year.

OK. So why choose a Customer or Claims Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships aren’t just for school leavers. Our apprentices come from all communities and age groups. While some join straight from school or college, many are career changers looking for a fresh challenge or returning to the workplace after a career break. Some also join from other parts of Aviva.

What sets our Claims and Customer Apprenticeships apart is the sheer variety of experiences and challenges you can find here. You’ll spend your time speaking to every kind of person, while building up deep experience in the Insurance and Finance industries.

What we offer all our apprentices is the chance to earn a salary as they learn invaluable new skills and gain professional qualifications. So, wherever you are in your working life, this is a great way to build a fantastic career.

Our Level 3 Apprenticeship typically takes 15 months to complete. From there any further development will be designed specifically for you and could include the opportunity for further study at a higher level, such as a Level 4 apprenticeship, which is equivalent to a foundation degree.

On the programme, you’ll learn on the job, gaining real-life experience as you work towards your professional qualifications.

You’ll be empowered to own your work, but don’t worry. We won’t expect you to be an expert from day one. Or even month one. You’ll have a supportive team around you who’ll be there to help you develop, every step of the way.

Claims Advisers. What do they do?

Claims are at the heart of our business, and where the customer really gets to feel the benefit of what we offer.  People make a Claim when something has gone wrong in their lives, and our job is to help them get back to normal as soon as possible. If you’re the kind of person who wants to see the purpose of the industry they work in first hand – someone who wants a career where they feel they are doing something that really makes a difference to people, then this route could be just what you’re looking for.

Claims can be for little things – a broken window or a leaky washing machine, or they can be for major life events like a serious car accident. No claim is the same and when you do this job you’ll never know what you are going to encounter from one day to the next.

But what we can guarantee is a great working culture, all the support and training you’ll need, sophisticated technology to make the processes as simple and quick as possible, and plenty of opportunities for career development.

Customer Advisers. What do they do?

One of the things that sets us apart is the quality of the personalised customer service we provide. It’s something we take very seriously.

Our Customer Advisers work as part of our Wealth Organisation, talking to customers and financial advisers and giving them support. You could be working in Investment Bonds, Pension Savings, or Platform Investments. Our products can be technical and there is a lot to learn, but don’t worry – you’ll receive plenty of training and support to help our customers with their complex queries.

For now it’s enough to know that our Wealth products have much in common with our Insurance products. The difference is that insurance helps you prepare for the bad things that happen in life, whereas pensions and investments help you prepare for the good. So, for example, by making regular payments into a pension or investment fund, you can spread the cost of big life events that might otherwise come as a financial shock – like a wedding, university fees, or retirement.

Why Aviva?

You might think we’re just another boring insurance firm, but we’re not.

For a start, we’re award-winners – voted “General Insurer of the Year” for the last 9 years! We don’t show up for work in pressed suits and shiny shoes. At Aviva, we’re proud to be different. Proud to say that we’re a diverse mix of cultures, genders, ages, perspectives, and ideas. Most important of all, we’re an organisation with a purpose. We want to lead the way forward in our sector, which is why we focus on being the best we can be. Every day.

Together, we’re building a better tomorrow with a little help – a lot, actually – from our apprentices!

No matter who you are, where you’re from or what your interests are, you can be sure there’s a place for you at Aviva. We’re passionate and committed, just like you are; we’re the first major insurer worldwide to target Net Zero carbon by 2040 and we’re committed to the community too – we’re aiming for £10bn UK infrastructure and real estate investment during 2023.

Where you’ll be based

Not all role types are available in every location so you may need to be flexible and willing to relocate if you don’t currently live within commuting distance.

We have open Claims Apprentice opportunities in: Glasgow and Norwich.

Join us, and after your training and induction period, it is likely you’ll balance time in the office with working from home. We call this Smart Working. When you join us, your leader will take time to discuss this with you and agree what works best for you, your team, and Aviva.
