Technology apprenticeships

Jump right in. Find a career that exceeds your expectations.

Technology apprenticeships. See where your strengths can take you.

Technology drives our business and enables us to put our customers at the centre of everything we do – whether that’s solving problems or creating innovate new solutions.

If you’re curious and passionate about what tech can do, we have a whole host of apprentice roles that might suit you. And you don’t need to have studied a technology subject or worked in tech to join us. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

Different stories. One team.

What’s it like to start out in our tech team? We spoke to some of the people who are experiencing it for themselves right now!

About the programme

Apprenticeships aren’t just for school leavers. Our apprentices come from all walks of life and age groups. While some join straight from school or college, many are career changers looking for a fresh challenge, or returning to the workplace after a career break. Some also join from other parts of Aviva.

What we offer all our apprentices, is the chance to earn a salary as they learn invaluable new skills and gain professional qualifications. So, wherever you are in your working life, this is a great way to build a fantastic career.

Depending on the programme, our apprenticeships last between 18 months and four years. Our Level 4 Apprenticeship will give you qualifications equivalent to a foundation degree. And if you join the Level 6 Apprenticeship in England or the Graduate Apprenticeship in Scotland, you’ll achieve a Bachelor degree. Whichever programme you participate in, you’ll learn on the job, gaining real-life experience as you work towards your professional qualifications.

You’ll be empowered to own your work, but don’t worry. We won’t expect you to be an expert from day one. Or even month one. You’ll have a supportive team around you who’ll be there to help you develop, every step of the way.

Why Aviva?

You might think we’re just another boring insurance firm, but we’re not. We don’t show up for work in pressed suits and shiny shoes. At Aviva, we’re proud to be different. Proud to say that we’re a diverse mix of cultures, genders, ages, perspectives and ideas.

Most important of all, we’re an organisation with a purpose. We want to lead the way forward in our sector, which is why we focus on being the best we can be. Every day. Together, we’re building a better tomorrow with a little help – a lot, actually – from our apprentices!

No matter who you are, where you’re from or what your interests are, you can be sure there’s a place for you at Aviva. We’re passionate and committed, just like you are; we’re the first major insurer worldwide to target Net Zero carbon by 2040 and we’re committed to the community too – we’re aiming for £10bn UK infrastructure and real estate investment by 2023.

What you can expect

Expect a workplace centred around people – you, your colleagues and of course, our customers.

We have lots of different roles in our technology teams for apprentices. For ease, we’ve grouped them into ‘pathways’. All you need to do is choose the pathway that best suits your skills, interests and aspirations. Previous experience in these roles isn’t essential. So, when choosing, think about your strengths, the types of tasks you enjoy doing, and we can teach you the rest.

If you love finding solutions, innovating, and being part of a talented, inquisitive team, then a career in our Technology teams could be for you.

Where you’ll be based

Our apprentice technology roles are in Bristol, Norwich, Perth and York depending on the nature of the role.

If you like your music, Bristol is the place for you. Hear the coolest musicians on the scene today at small, intimate gigs in lively bars across this cultured city. Or why not take a stroll along the canals and enjoy the colourful street art that brings Bristol to life?

Norwich is quaint, with many a cobbled alleyway meandering off the main streets. In 2020, the city was named as one of the UK’s Best Places to Live by The Sunday Times, so it’s a great time to join us in this lively city in eastern England.

If it’s a riverside town surrounded by rolling green hills and wild Scottish countryside you’re after, then Perth is where you’ll want to work.

Or join us in York, a charming cathedral city steeped in ancient Viking roots. Walled by ancient brick, it’s a beautiful place to live and work, so it’s no surprise that The Sunday Times rates it one of the best places to live in the UK (there is a theme going on here!).

Wherever you’re based, our Smart Working initiative will give you a chance to work from home for some of the time, if your role can support this.

What you’ll need

You’ll need certain qualifications depending on what level of apprenticeship you’re applying for. You can find all the details in the job advert for each role, but as a rule of thumb, to study a Level 4 or Level 6 Apprenticeship (in Scotland that’s a Graduate Apprenticeship) you’ll need:

  • Have, or be on track for, at least three A-Levels at grades B, C, C or above (England)
  • OR have, or be on track for, at least 4 Highers at grades B, B, B, C or above (Scotland)
  • OR Level 3 equivalent qualifications.

You will also need to have at least five GCSEs or Scottish National 5s at A*–C grade or 9–4 (or equivalent), including English and Maths.

Most importantly, you’ll be naturally curious and excited about using innovative technologies to make life better and more rewarding for customers and employees alike.

Application process

Our applications are open from 11th January until the end of February and we’ll be holding our assessments in April or May 2022. We’ll want to hear about your problem-solving and communication skills, and your passion for technology too. And it goes without saying you’ll need to feel a connection with our values. Sounds good? Great. Here’s what you need to do.

Ready for the next step?

Life with us means being empowered. Empowered to do great work. Empowered to be yourself. And, in Technology, empowered to help shape what we do, and how.

Up for it?
