We have a variety of 10-week summer internship placements available for students in the penultimate year of their undergraduate degree, or for those already in their final year and doing a one-year Master’s degree from September 2024.

Whichever internship interests you; you can rest assured it’ll be a great opportunity to gain a deeper insight into the tech, change delivery and cyber security worlds while getting a head start on your future career. The work you do will be interesting and challenging, and you’ll do it with the full support of our brilliant technology, cyber security and change community.

And the great thing is, you don’t need to be a tech expert (or even be studying it) to make the most of it. Instead, we look for people who understand the impact technology can have and are eager to make change happen while keeping our colleagues, 18.7 million customers and Aviva safe.

Our internships are designed to be a pipeline into our Graduate Programmes. After successful completion of your placement, you may be offered a permanent graduate role starting with us in September 2025 (after successful completion of your course).

Which internship pathway is for you?

We’ve got a number of placements across our Technology teams. For ease, we have grouped them into two pathways. All you need to do is choose the pathway that best suits your skills, interests, and aspirations.

And remember, you don’t need previous technology experience or even to have studied tech at university either. So, when choosing, think about your strengths and the types of tasks you enjoy doing, and we can teach you the rest!

Your application will be for the whole pathway. We ask you to keep an open mind about role preferences because, throughout the recruitment process, we’ll be looking to understand which role we think will suit you best. That said, if you have a preference, you can let us know.

Tech Change Delivery Pathway

These roles are for big picture thinkers, who want to drive change and that transforms experiences and delivers great service for our customers and colleagues safely. Technology is at the heart of these changes – but you don’t need to be an IT expert or techie to thrive here. This is about understanding the impact technology has and how we can harness it to get results safely.

Cyber Security Pathway

Cyber security is a high-profile activity here at Aviva where our cyber teams play a crucial role in protecting Aviva data, colleagues and customers from cyber-attacks and website fraud.

Where you’ll be based

We have Tech Change Delivery internship opportunities in our Norwich and York offices. Our Cyber Security internships are based in our Norwich offices only. As not all roles are available in every location, you may need to be flexible about where you work and be willing to relocate if you don’t currently live within commuting distance of the relevant office. Wherever you’re based, the likelihood is you’ll balance time in the office with working from home. We call this Smart Working. Three days in the office and two days from home is typical, but this will vary between teams. When you join us, your leader will take time to discuss this with you, and agree what works best for you, your team, and the business.

As we adopt this Smart Working approach, it’s important to note that you will still need to live within commuting distance of the relevant office. That way you’ll get to spend time with your team in person, as well as virtually, and get access to the right internal support networks to help you to succeed.

Norwich York

What you’ll need

To be considered for a 10-week summer internship placement with us in any of our roles you’ll need to:

Be a penultimate year student, studying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (in any subject), with one year of study remaining after the internship
Be intending to return to university for your final year of study after the placement
Be available to work full time (35 hours per week) for the full duration of the internship (2^nd July – 6^th September 2024)
Have right to work in the UK for the duration of the internship whether that be on a permanent basis, or with a visa that would allow you to work 35 hours per week. We are unable to offer sponsorship for anyone requiring sponsorship by Aviva due the roles not meeting the requirements set out by the home office

Across both pathways, we’re looking for people who are motivated to drive real change and make a positive impact for our colleagues and customers, keeping them safe. You’ll be a confident communicator with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and a love of learning — committed to continually developing yourself. You’ll also have an analytical mind and talent for problem solving as well as an eagerness to question existing ways of doing things. And it goes without saying we’ll be looking for:

a genuine interest in Cyber Security for our cyber roles
a passion for technology, change, innovation and continual improvement for our Tech Change Delivery roles

Our summer internships are designed to be a feeder into our Graduate Programmes. After completion of the internship successful candidates may be offered the opportunity to return to us as a permanent graduate in September 2025 so we look for candidates who are interested in not only getting summer experience, but also those who are also looking to secure a future permanent role.

Prospect of a graduate role

After successful completion of your 10-week summer internship placement, you may be offered a graduate role starting with us in 2025 (after successful completion of your course).
