Recruitment process

Total confidence? Or a few butterflies?

Decide on the programme you want to do and where you want to work. Then apply online by using the ‘Apply' button. We recommend that you thoroughly read the website before you submit your application. As part of the application, we'll ask you to write about yourself, and why you think the programme is right for you, and to tell us about something you've done that has made you feel proud. We recommend that you're as honest and open as you can be, so that we can get a sense of who you are and what matters to you. You might find it easier to write your answers up separately and copy and paste them into the online form so that you have the opportunity to make sure you're really happy with them. Once you are and you've sent us your application, we'll send you an email to confirm we've received it.

If you pass the application screen we will send you a link to an online test. This test will assess your abstract, verbal and numerical reasoning ability.  The email will be sent to the address you supply during your application so keep an eye on your inbox. No preparation is required. If you pass these we will invite you the next step below.

We want to get to know you better and our online video interview allows us to learn more about you and your motivations for joining Aviva. We will ask you a series of example based questions which relate to the core values which define us as an organisation; Care More, Kill Complexity, Never Rest & Create Legacy. More detail on our values can be found in ‘About Aviva’ on the homepage.

Don’t worry if you haven’t completed a video interview before. The system will guide you through the set up step by step and give you a test question to practice with until you are ready to begin the interview. Just make sure you’re somewhere quiet, where you won’t get disturbed. You won't know the questions in advance but we recommend that you're as honest and open as you can be, so that we can get a sense of who you are and what matters to you.

If we think you have what we’re after, we'll invite you to a face-to-face interview or an assessment centre depending on your availability. Don't worry. We'll give you lots of pointers on how to prepare and what to expect on the day.
At our assessment centres you may experience for example: a presentation, a group task and a face-to-face interview, or other forms of assessment. But don’t worry, it's really important to us that you feel relaxed so we can see you at your best, so we'll give you time to prepare. Remember though, the assessment centre isn't just our chance to find out whether you're right for us. It's also your chance to decide whether we're right for you

If you are successful at the assessment centre we will call to offer you a place on one of our schemes. If you aren't successful this time we'll let you know – and if you'd like more feedback on why, just ask

Before you join us you'll need to complete our pre-employment screening process. We do ask for quite a lot of information but we'll guide you through this step-by-step.
If you are successful in being offered a role, Aviva will carry out the following pre-employment screening checks:

Check your legal right to work in the UK

  • Carry out an education and qualification check
  • Carry out a criminal history check
  • Carry out a credit check
  • Carry out a check against a Fraud Prevention Database (CIFAS)
  • External Auditor check

As we provide financial services, we're heavily regulated. We use the documents you bring with you to your assessment centre, like your passport for instance, to do these pre-employment screening checks. But we might need other documents on top. We complete this process for all new Aviva employees – it's an important part of reassuring our customers that their personal information is in safe hands.
Once the checks are complete, we'll send you your contract, start date and induction details.

Your first day – welcome to Aviva.
Before you start you’ll join other Aviva Graduates from around the country on a joint induction. This will introduce you to the company and help you get ready for great things ahead.

Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and vacancies are filled on a first come first served basis so we advise candidates to apply early to avoid disappointment.
Deadlines and closing dates are set according to the demands of the business. If schemes are reopened or extended we still only consider one application within the Scheme year.
