Pricing and Underwriting graduate pathway

Turning uncertainty into stability. Shaping the future through insight.

Find a career that brings out your spark.

Is Pricing and Underwriting right for you?

At Aviva, we’re here to protect what matters most-whether that’s your home, your car, your business, or something a bit more specialist. Every insurance policy starts with a decision: should we cover this, and if so, what’s the right price?

That’s where our Underwriting and Pricing teams come in.

Underwriting is all about making confident, informed decisions. As an underwriter you’ll assess risks based on the type of cover we’re giving, the likelihood of something bad happening, the value of what’s being insured, and the customer’s history of making claims. You’ll negotiate terms and decide whether we should offer cover. It’s a mix of analysis, curiosity and great people skills.

Pricing is more about the numbers. You’ll dive into data, build predictive models, and use market insight to calculate fair and competitive prices. It’s perfect if you love getting stuck into the detail and solving tricky problems.

Whether you’re more into people or data, this pathway gives you the chance to explore both sides – and find out where you shine.

Salary: £33,200
Duration: Permanent role, with two-year development programme
Locations: NorwichLondon or York

What you can expect

From day one, you’ll be learning loads, getting stuck in, and making a real impact. You’ll train alongside experienced underwriters and pricing professionals, gaining hands-on experience and learning how we assess risk and set prices. Along the way, you’ll exploretopics – from global trade to climate change and how world events can affect insurance.

You’ll also get to grips with the financial side of how insurance works. We’ll support you every step of the way. You’ll have support and guidance from coaches and senior leaders as well as access to data tools, and the chance to work across teams. You might even rotate into different areas, to help you figure out what you enjoy most and where your strengths lie.

We’re here to help you build the skills and knowledge you need to grow your career. You’ll be part of a supportive environment where you can stretch yourself, learn new skills and try new things, and build strong connections. From approachable leaders to supportive colleagues, you’ll find encouragement at every step.

If you’re joining one of our Commercial Pricing roles in London, you’ll study towards your Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) qualification – and we’ll fully support you through it. For other roles, there’s the chance to study for relevant professional qualifications too, and we’ll be right behind you all the way.

And that’s not all. In your first two years, you’ll join our supported central development programme designed to help you grow into a well-rounded professional and a future business leader.

Where you’ll be based

Our Underwriting Graduate roles will be based in London and our Pricing roles are based in Norwich, London and York.

Wherever you’re based, the likelihood is you’ll balance time in the office with working from home. We call this Smart Working. Three days in the office and two days from home is typical, but this will vary between teams. When you join us, your leader will take time to discuss this with you, and agree what works best for you, your team, and the business.

Even with our Smart Working approach, it’s important to note you’ll still need to live within commuting distance of your contracted office. That way you’ll get to spend time with your team in person, as well as virtually, and get access to the right internal support networks to help you to succeed.

What you’ll need

For all roles you’ll either already have a degree or be graduating by the end of Summer 2026. You’ll need to be ready to start work full-time from September 2026.

For Pricing roles in London, your degree will need to be in a STEM, highly numerical or economics related subject, and you must have a B in Math’s at A-Level. This is because you will study for your Institute of Actuaries, Actuarial qualification.

Experience with coding-especially in languages like Python or R-is a bonus, but not essential. If it’s something you’re interested in, we’ll support you to build those skills along the way.

Across all roles, we’re looking for people who are naturally curious and up for learning new things. If you enjoy getting stuck into problems, exploring data, and asking the kinds of questions that lead to fresh insights, you’ll feel right at home here.

You’ll bring a strong sense of fairness and be motivated by doing the right thing for our customers. We don’t expect you to have all the answers from day one – what matters is your ability to think clearly and your willingness to grow and work with others.

We’re looking for great communicators who can share ideas confidently, collaborate across teams, and adapt when things get busy or priorities shift. And as you build your career, you’ll be keen to sharpen your technical, analytical, and strategic skills, with plenty of support to help you along the way.

Aviva cannot provide visa sponsorship for this programme. To apply, you’ll need indefinite right to work in the UK. If this applies to you, we’d love to hear from you.

Show us your spark
