Actuarial graduate pathway

The science behind our solutions.

Find a career that brings out your spark.

Is Actuarial right for you?

Actuarial work is grounded in maths, but it’s not just number-crunching. It’s about using data, logic, and analytical thinking to help shape key decisions across the business.

From reporting to pricing, from valuations to solvency, and from data to digital, our actuaries play a key role in everything we do. Basically, they make sure we’re financially sound and future ready. So if you’re someone who enjoys solving problems, thinking things through and making a real impact, this could be a great fit for you.

Salary: £34,200 plus exam related pay increases
Duration: Permanent role from day one. Four to five years training programme.
Locations: Bristol, Norwich, York

What you can expect

On average, you’ll spend between four and five years on the programme. During that time you’ll rotate through different actuarial teams every 18 months or so – from Healthcare Reporting to Data Science and Digital, you’ll get a solid mix of experience across the business.

You’ll also be working towards your Institute of Actuaries professional qualification to become a fully qualified actuary. As you pass your exams, we’ll increase your pay to recognise your success. And once you qualify, you’ll be earning a market leading salary.

And that’s not all. For the first two years, you’ll join our supported central development programme designed to help you grow into a well-rounded professional and a future business leader.

As you grow, so do your opportunities. You’ll get to own your work, shape your career progression and share your ideas. We’ll support you every step of the way – with real responsibility, meaningful projects and the chance to make a genuine impact.

Where you’ll be based

Our Actuarial graduate roles are based in our Bristol, Norwich, and York offices. You can find out more about each location by clicking the links below.

Wherever you’re based, the likelihood is you’ll balance time in the office with working from home. We call this Smart Working. Three days in the office and two days from home is typical, but this will vary between teams. When you join us, your leader will take time to discuss this with you, and agree what works best for you, your team, and the business.

Even with our Smart Working approach, it’s important to note you’ll still need to live within commuting distance of your contracted office. That way you’ll get to spend time with your team in person, as well as virtually, and get access to the right internal support networks to help you to succeed.

What you’ll need

You’ll either already have a degree or be graduating by the end of Summer 2026. You’ll need to be ready to start full-time work from September 2026.

You don’t need a degree in Actuarial Science, but it does need to be numerical or STEM-related. A Grade B or above in A Level Maths (or equivalent) is essential. But what really matters is that you’re curious about how businesses work and love solving problems.

Aviva cannot provide visa sponsorship for this programme. To apply, you’ll need indefinite right to work in the UK. If this applies to you, we’d love to hear from you.

Show us your spark

During the application process, we’ll want to hear about what you enjoy doing and what you are good at. And it goes without saying you’ll need to feel a connection with our values.

Sounds good? Great. Here’s what you need to do now.

If we can help to make the process smoother for you with any additional support or reasonable adjustments, please just let us know by emailing avivaearlycareers@aviva.com.
