We’ve got 12-month placements for students in their penultimate year at university.  Whichever placement you choose, you’ll gain valuable experience, build new skills and be supported by our brilliant technology and change community.

And the great thing is, you don’t need to be a technology expert (or even studying it) to make the most of it. We’re looking for curious minds and big picture thinkers – people who understand how powerful technology can be and are eager to make change happen.

Our Year in Industry placements will put you at the heart of our technology and change teams, where you’ll gain invaluable on the job experience. As you grow your skills and experience, there’ll be lots of development opportunities which will give you the foundations you need to succeed.

We’re looking to find and develop the technology and change delivery stars of the future. That’s why our placement programmes feed into our graduate programmes. After completing your placement, you might be offered a permanent graduate role starting with us in September 2029 once you’ve successfully finished your course.

Where you’ll be based

We have Technology and Change Delivery Year in Industry opportunities in our Norwich and York offices. Not all roles are available in every location, so you might need to be flexible about where you work and be willing to relocate if you don’t currently live within commuting distance of the relevant office. You can find out more about each location by clicking the links below.

We believe some of the best collaboration, learning, and relationship building happens when people come together. That’s why our colleagues spend around 50% or more of their working time in the office.

We call this Smart Working. For most colleagues, that means spending around three days a week in the office and the rest working from home. The exact balance varies by role and team, giving you the benefits of both in-person collaboration and the flexibility of working from home.

To make the most of your experience, you’ll need to live within a reasonable commuting distance of your contracted office.

What you’ll need

To be considered for a 12-month placement with us in any of our Technology and Change Delivery roles you’ll:

  • be studying for an undergraduate degree (in any subject)
  • be on a course that supports a placement year
  • be available to work full-time (35 hours per week) from 29 June 2027 to 23 June 2028
  • have indefinite right to work in the UK
  • be intending to return to university for your final year of study after the placement (graduating in 2029) and interested in a Graduate role

We’re looking for people who are motivated to drive real change and make a positive impact for our colleagues and customers.  You’ll need to be a confident communicator with a love of learning and a commitment to continually developing yourself.  You’ll have an analytical mind and a talent for problem solving as well as an eagerness to question existing ways of doing things.

Most of all, we want people who care about making a difference – who enjoy helping others, are driven to create real change, and excited to learn and grow. If you’re curious about new and emerging technology and keen to explore how it can be used to make life better for our customers and colleagues, you’ll fit well here.

Our Year in Industry programmes are designed to provide a pathway into our permanent graduate opportunities. As we don’t offer visa sponsorship for our graduate programmes, you’ll need to have the right to work in the UK without Aviva sponsorship for the full duration of the programme and beyond. This means we’re unable to progress applications from candidates on a Student or Graduate Visa, as long-term sponsorship isn’t available.

That’s what we want to see. So, each stage of our application process is designed to bring out the best in you. Below is a step-by-step guide.

Step 1 – Apply online

When you first apply, we’ll ask you to send us a copy of your CV and answer some short questions.

Step 2 – Online tests

If you’re shortlisted, we’ll invite you to take an online Situational Strengths and Numerical Reasoning test. This helps us understand how you think, work with others, approach different scenarios and use numerical information to make decisions.

Step 3 – Video interview and AI literacy assessment

If you pass the online tests, we’ll send you a link to complete a recorded video interview. You’ll answer a few strength-based questions (with a practice one first to help you warm up). Our system will guide you through it step by step. During the interview, you’ll have the chance to tell us why you’re excited to start your career with Aviva.

Following your video interview, you’ll complete a short AI literacy assessment. This will help us understand your preferred ways of working and how you use judgement when interacting with AI in workplace scenarios.

While you’ll be assessed on AI literacy, AI is not used to assess you or make recruitment decisions at any stage of the process.

 

Step 4 – Assessment day

If you do well, we’ll invite you to an assessment day. You’ll meet some of the team, get a feel for what it’s like to work here and show us what you’re all about. Do well and you’ll get an offer to start on 29th June 2027.
