Actuarial graduate pathway

The science behind our solutions.

Find a career that brings out your spark.

Is Actuarial right for you?

Well, in a nutshell, this is about maths. Essentially, this is about the mathematical thinking that underpins everything we do.

From reporting to pricing, from valuations to solvency, and from data to digital, our actuaries have a big say in everything we do.  So if you’re a natural problem-solver and you’d love to be an important part of an important company (we’re the UK’s leading diversified insurer), you’ll find this an extremely empowering place to be.

Salary: £33,500 plus exam related pay increases
Duration: Permanent role from day one. Four to five years training programme.
Locations: Bristol, Eastleigh, Norwich, York

Applications for the Actuarial graduate pathway are now closed.

What you can expect

On average, you’ll spend between four and five years on the programme, during which time you’ll move to a different actuarial team every 18 months or so. These teams cover everything from Healthcare Reporting to Data Science and Digital.

Along the way, you’ll study for the Institute of Actuaries professional examinations, so by the end of the scheme you’ll be a fully qualified actuary. You will receive exam related pay increases to recognise your success, resulting in a market leading salary on qualification.

And that’s not all. For the first two years, you’ll also benefit from our supported central development programme, giving you everything you need to become a well-rounded professional and a future leader of the business.

As your skills and experience grow, there’ll be lots of other development opportunities too. You’ll be empowered to be yourself. To take control of your own work and your own progression. Show us what you can do, and we’ll be right behind you, giving you more and more responsibility and opportunities to shape your future and that of the industry.

Where you’ll be based

Our Actuarial graduate roles are based in our Bristol, Eastleigh, Norwich, and York offices. You can find out more about each location by clicking the links below.

Wherever you’re based, the likelihood is you’ll balance time in the office with working from home. We call this Smart Working. Three days in the office and two days from home is typical, but this will vary between teams. When you join us, your leader will take time to discuss this with you, and agree what works best for you, your team, and the business.

Even with our Smart Working approach, it’s important to note you’ll still need to live within commuting distance of your contracted office. That way you’ll get to spend time with your team in person, as well as virtually, and get access to the right internal support networks to help you to succeed.

What you’ll need

You’ll either already have a degree or be on track to graduate by the end of Summer 2025. You must also be available for full-time work from September 2025.

Your degree doesn’t have to be in Actuarial Science, but it must be in a numerical or STEM-related discipline. Most important is that you’re commercially minded and love solving problems.

Show us your spark

During the application process, we’ll want to hear about what you enjoy doing and what you are good at. And it goes without saying you’ll need to feel a connection with our values.

Sounds good? Great. Here’s what you need to do now.

If we can help to make the process smoother for you with any additional support or reasonable adjustments, please just let us know by emailing avivaearlycareers@aviva.com.
