AI and Machine Learning graduate pathway

Help shape how AI is used at Aviva

Find a career that brings out your spark.

Is Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning right for you?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning are transforming how organisations solve problems, make decisions and create better experiences for customers.

At Aviva, AI is already helping colleagues and customers every day. From supporting claims and underwriting decisions to improving customer experiences and detecting fraud, we’re using AI to solve real-world challenges across our business. We’re also investing in the people, technology and platforms that will help us unlock the potential of AI in the years ahead.

Our AI and Machine Learning pathway gives you the opportunity to be part of that journey.

You’ll work at the intersection of technology, data and business, helping turn innovative ideas into practical solutions that create real value. AI doesn’t happen in isolation. It takes people who can understand business challenges, build products, develop platforms and create the trusted data foundations that make AI possible.

Whether your role focuses on engineering, platforms, data or delivery, you’ll help bring AI from idea to reality. You’ll gain insight into how organisations identify opportunities, develop and scale solutions, and measure their impact, helping create better outcomes for customers and colleagues.

You’ll work alongside specialists in data, technology and AI, gaining experience in one of the most rapidly evolving areas of our business. If you’re naturally curious, enjoy solving problems and want to help shape the future of technology, this pathway could be the perfect fit.

Salary: £34,200

Duration: Permanent role, with two-year development programme

Locations: Bristol or Norwich

What you can expect

From day one, you’ll gain hands-on experience working on technology and AI initiatives that support real business outcomes.

Our AI and Machine Learning pathway brings together a range of opportunities across AI delivery, engineering, platform development and data. Depending on your role, you could be helping teams identify where AI can solve business challenges, building AI-powered products, developing the platforms that support machine learning, or creating trusted data assets that enable better decisions and innovation across Aviva.

You’ll gain exposure to how AI solutions move from concept to reality. Working with colleagues across technology, data and business teams, you’ll learn how organisations use AI to solve business challenges, develop solutions and create value for customers and colleagues.

Along the way, you’ll develop skills in AI, machine learning, cloud technologies, data engineering, automation and modern engineering practices. You’ll gain experience working with enterprise-scale platforms and tools while learning how AI can be developed and applied responsibly within a regulated organisation.

The pathway includes opportunities in areas such as AI engineering, AI delivery and AI and machine learning platforms. Together, these disciplines help turn ideas into practical solutions, from understanding business needs and user requirements through to building, deploying and supporting tools that people use every day.

As our AI capability continues to evolve, you’ll help shape solutions that are already making a difference across the business while developing the skills that will support a long-term career in one of the fastest-evolving areas of technology.

Your development doesn’t stop with your role. Through our two-year Early Careers Development Programme, you’ll build valuable skills, grow your network and gain experiences that will support you throughout your career.

Where you’ll be based

Our AI and Machine Learning graduate roles are based in Bristol and Norwich.

We believe some of the best collaboration, learning, and relationship building happens when people come together in-person. That’s why our colleagues spend around 50% or more of their working time in the office.

We call this Smart Working. For most colleagues, that means spending around three days a week in the office and the rest working from home. The exact balance varies by role and team, giving you the benefits of both in-person collaboration and the flexibility of working from home.

To make the most of your experience, you’ll need to live within a reasonable commuting distance of your contracted office.

What you’ll need

You’ll already have, or be on track to achieve, a degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, Business Intelligence, or another highly numerate or technology-related subject by the end of summer 2027 and be ready to start your career with us full-time in September 2027.

You’ll have a genuine passion for technology and AI, with a strong interest in areas such as machine learning, data, automation or emerging technologies. You’ll enjoy solving problems, working with information and thinking analytically to explore new possibilities and create real-world impact.

You don’t need to be an AI expert or experienced programmer before you join us, but you should be curious, eager to learn and excited by the opportunity to develop your technical and professional skills in a fast-moving field.

Visa sponsorship isn’t available. To apply, you’ll need indefinite right to work in the UK. If this applies to you, we’d love to hear from you.
