Risk management associate and apprenticeship pathway

Expect the unexpected

Find a career that brings out your spark

Is Risk Management right for you?

Even though we need insurance to protect ourselves, no one ever really wants to be in a position where they need to make a claim. So, what if your analytical mind could help customers avoid situations so they don’t have to?

Our risk consultants work closely with our customers to help minimise risk and hopefully stop a loss from happening in the first place. This might be by advising customers to do something as simple as fit new locks or install a better alarm system. Or it might be suggesting a business completes a risk assessment for something like health and safety, for example, to protect their employees.

Salary: £25,100
Duration: Permanent role from day one with three year learning programme.
Locations: Home-based

Risk Management Specialisms

As an Associate or Apprentice in Risk Management, you’ll support our teams in assessing risk and delivering our prevention solutions across the business. As you’d expect from a training programme, there’s a blend of learning and working. You’ll learn from experts, have your own mentor, and work on a wide range of risk management-related projects to build your skills in risk management. You’ll spend a large chunk of your time learning on the job and working as part of a team. And of course, there’ll be dedicated ‘off the job’ time to focus on your studies, using an industry-recognised training provider to support your career growth.

You can find out more about each of our risk management specialisms below. Whichever one you choose, in years one and two, you’ll benefit from our supported central development programme, giving you everything you need to become a well-rounded professional and a future leader of the business.

Where you’ll be based

If you join us as a Risk Management Associate or Apprentice, you’ll be classed as a homeworker. While we don’t need you to be in the office every day, we do expect you to travel to your nearest office twice a week initially, so you’ll need to live within a commutable distance to the Aviva office in London for the Risk Consultant Associate role and either Leeds or York for the Risk Management Data Apprentice role.

There’ll also be travel to other locations across the UK for accompanied site visits (approximately one per month), technical training sessions, and team meetings when required.

What you’ll need

To join us on this training programme, you’ll need (or be on track to achieve) at least two A-Levels or three Scottish Highers at grades C or above. Or have an equivalent Level 3 qualification.

You’ll also need at least five GCSEs or Scottish National 5s at grades A*-C (9-4) or have equivalent qualifications. These must include English and Maths.

Alongside that, we’re looking for people who:

  • are confident communicators.
  • can adapt well to different tasks and situations.
  • are self-motivated and dedicated to changing things for the better.
  • have a full clean driving licence (for Risk Consultant Associate pathway).

In addition to meeting the above criteria, you must:

  • have lived in the UK or European Economic Area (EEA) for at least 3 years by the start of the apprenticeship in September 2025.
  • be eligible to work full-time in the UK for the entire duration of the apprenticeship.
  • be available for full time work from September 2025 when all our apprentice roles start.

Please note this job role isn’t sponsorable under the Home Office points based system.
